Product Overview

The Garrett Z-Lynk (or Z Link) Wireless System allows you to pair any metal detector with any set of headphones, wirelessly. This product fixes one of the biggest pain points in metal detecting – being tethered to your detector when trying to pinpoint and dig your target.

While there are similar products already on the market, what sets the Z-Lynk apart from other wireless systems is the near-zero speed at which it delivers the audio signal to your headphones.

In fact, it is six times faster than any other product currently on the market.

With only a 17 millisecond delay between your headphones and your metal detector, the Z-Lynk is almost six times faster than a traditional Bluetooth link.

Speed in wireless headphones is super important because it allows for more accuracy since you hear the audio signal when the metal detector is directly over the target.

When there’s a delay in the audio processing, you’ll end up incorrectly pinpointing the target a few inches to either side.

Compatibility

The Z-Lynk wireless system offers great versatility, as it works with most metal detectors (not just Garrett) and nearly every brand of wired headphones.

It uses a 1/4″ headphone connector which makes it incredibly easy to use your existing headphones.

If you’re using the Garrett AT Pro or AT Gold, you’ll need the adapter (sold separately) to use this system since those machines don’t use the standard 1/4″ connector.

This system also uses a frequency hopping process to create a practically infinite number of channels so no need to worry about interference from nearby wireless devices or other detectorists.

Setup and Pairing

There are two parts to this system: The wireless transmitter (WT1) that straps to your detector and the wireless receiver (WR1) which connects to your headphones.

The WT1 and WR1 modules are capable of providing almost 30 hours of battery life when fully charged.

And installation is a breeze.

Simply use the included elastic strap to secure the WT1 unit to your detector.

Some detector models like the Fisher F75 and Teknetics T2 will require that the unit is installed in a different position in order to ensure the headphone jack is accessible.

Plug in the micro-USB plug into the WT1 and plug the quarter-inch plug into the headphone jack of the detector.

Plug your headphones into the WR1 and clip it to your belt or just stick it in your pocket.

Turn on the power by pressing both power buttons for one second, starting with the WR1, then on the WT1.

An easier method is to just turn on your detector to activate the auto-on feature.

When both units are properly paired, they will show a solid, red light – most units will already be paired when you receive them.

If you need to pair, simply switch them both on and then bring them within 3 feet of each other.

Then quickly press the power button on the WT1.

When paired, the lights will become steady red instead of blinking.

The two units will stay paired – even when you turn off your detector.

To switch off your Z-Lynk units, switch off your detector, then press the power buttons on both units for one second.

In case you forget to power down, it has a nice auto-off feature after 30 minutes of inactivity to save your battery life.

Battery Life and Charging

The Z-Lynk units both contain rechargeable lithium batteries.

When approximately 3 hours of battery life remain, the battery indicator light will begin flashing.

The included USB to micro-USB cables are used to charge the batteries.

Batteries can be charged in a car, at home or with a compatible cell phone power block.

After 5 hours of charging your recharge will be complete. Fully charged batteries will result in almost 30 hours of use.

Additional Features

Volume control buttons on the WR1 can be used to adjust volume as needed.

This is a great feature to have because not all headphones have volume control.

The Z-Lynk units are water-resistant, not waterproof or submersible. Neither unit should ever be submerged in water!

So we do not recommend using this when hunting in water with your AT Pro or AT Gold.

The included carrying case is the suggested way of storing the Z-Lynk. Charging cables, the attachment band and both units can all be stored in the carrying case.
